Applied Drug Policy Research Experiences
This project will establish applied drug policy research experiences for graduate students and recent post-graduates to conduct rigorous research studies and data analyses to support the National Drug Control Strategy. This research will investigate dynamic shifts in, and associations between, illicit drug supply, drug use and their associated consequences, to help public health and public safety officials anticipate new drug outbreaks and prepare faster and more effective responses to protect the American public.

→The overarching goal of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) and its companion opportunities is to establish the Precision Medicine with AI: Integrating Imaging with Multimodal Data (PRIMED-AI) Program to support development of innovative, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable multimodal AI-based clinical decision support (CDS) tools. PRIMED-AI CDS tools are based on the integration of clinical imaging with other types of multimodal health data to enhance care for patients with a wide range of health conditions. The PRIMED-AI Program seeks to catalyze the adoption of AI-based CDS tools into clinical workflows to enable novel personalized medicine strategies that address significant health challenges. The purpose of this NOFO is to solicit applications for the creation of a Validation Center to serve as a dedicated hub for the comprehensive evaluation and characterization of AI-enabled, image-based, multimodal CDS tools developed by the PRIMED-AI Consortium, to ensure these tools are reliable, reproducible, and generalizable. The Validation Center will focus on verification, validation, interoperability, and uncertainty quantification to comprehensively characterize performance of the CDS tools developed by the program. The core functions of the Validation Center will involve the systematic validation of PRIMED-AI Consortium deliverables, including those emerging from award recipients under the Playbook, Data-to-Model Academic-Industrial Partnerships, and Model-to-Clinic NOFOs.

→Through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) solicits applications for research on developing a comprehensive and cohesive understanding of cancer metastasis. Towards this goal, the NCI will support U54 Specialized Centers that together will continue to serve as the hub of the Metastasis Research Network (MetNet). Each MetNet Center should propose an overarching scientific theme that will be pursued through two or three scientific inter- and multidisciplinary basic research projects. The projects should use integrative system level approaches to elucidate and integrate a mechanistic understanding of the non-linear, dynamic, and emergent processes in metastasis. Overarching themes should encompass the interplay between at least two central elements in the metastatic process such as early dissemination, cellular, soluble and/or physical microenvironment crosstalk, dormancy, or mechanisms of responses by metastatic cells to therapies. Studies on all types of cancer are welcome, including rare and pediatric metastatic cancers.Research proposed by MetNet Centers is expected to advance our understanding towards a more comprehensive appreciation of metastasis as a whole body, systems-level problem.

→This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites a single cooperative agreement application for the Resource Center for the Cardiovascular Repository for Type 1 Diabetes (CaRe-T1D). The purpose of CaRe-T1D is to support innovative, discovery and mechanistic research through the study of human cardiovascular (CV) tissue. This research seeks to better understand cardiovascular disease (CVD) in type 1 diabetes, highlight differences compared to type 2 diabetes, and ultimately guide the development of therapies to treat this major cause of morbidity and mortality for individuals with type 1 diabetes. To achieve these goals, the Resource Center will expand the CaRe-T1D biorepository of human CV tissue, further develop the data commons for data sharing and for artificial intelligence (AI) tools, coordinate the research activities of the investigative teams in the CaRe-T1D consortium, and make CaRe-T1D resources accessible to the broader research community. →ONDCP’s Drug Court Training and Technical Assistance Cooperative Agreement supports training and technical assistance (TTA) to ensure access to evidence-based addiction treatment through drug courts, including when substance use disorder co-occurs with other mental healthconditions. ONDCP seeks to reduce drug use and its consequences through evidence-based treatment that leads to long-term recovery, and this cooperative agreement will support the President’s priorities by applying this to the criminal justice system. The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to: (1) educate, train, and produce materials to improve the implementation of evidence-based treatment to individuals with addiction, including when substance use disorder co-occurs with other mental health conditions; (2)decrease criminal justice costs and recidivism rates; and (3) improve access to evidence-based addiction treatment that includes medications for opioid use disorder through drug courts. The cooperative agreement recipient shall:• Use expert practitioners in the science of addiction and evidence-based addiction treatment, as well as integration of treatment into the criminal justice system.• Use licensed behavioral health practitioners.• Provide in-person training, online training, and jurisdiction-specific technical assistanceto a wide range of geographically distributed areas—including rural locations—at thestate, local, and tribal levels.• Ensure close alignment of all TTA materials with the Trump Administration’s policy priorities, including the 2026 National Drug Control Strategy; an evidence-based approach to treating addiction--to include FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder--contingency management, and other evidence-based behavioral health modalities for other substance use disorders; naloxone distribution and naloxone training.• Designate and fund a research or academic organization to conduct an independent assessment of the effectiveness and impact of training and technical assistance conducted under this cooperative agreement. The independent study should involve data collectionfrom state, local, and tribal jurisdictions engaged in cooperative agreement recipient programming.

→BLM Invasive and Noxious Plant Management Programs work to prevent, detect, inventory, control, and monitor weed populations on public lands.Invasive species cost the public millions of dollars in control and management each year and many invasive plants and noxious weeds are highly competitive and have the ability to permanently degrade our public lands.Noxious weeds and invasive species expansion are recognized as the single greatest threat to our native plant communities and the values they provide us.These native plant communities are essential for supporting wildlife habitat, watershed function, recreation opportunities, rural economies and working landscapes.Invasive plants and noxious weeds affect plant and animal communities on farms and ranches, and in parks, waters, forests, natural areas, and backyards in negative ways.Human activity such as trade, travel, and tourism have all increased substantially, escalating the speed and volume of species movement to unprecedented levels.Increased site vulnerability from wildfires that are more frequent and other disturbances is an ongoing challenge to maintaining the integrity of our native plant communities.Noxious weeds are particularly aggressive plants legally designated by states as being injurious to public health, the environment or the economy.Invasive species and noxious weeds adversely affect overall recreational opportunities on public land i.e., hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, watershed health and ecosystem function, which result in economic losses in rural and urban communities.Invasive species and noxious weeds affect adjacent private lands, both rural and urban, causing widespread economic losses to the agricultural industry as well as to other resources.Advance early detection rapid response.Enhance emergency stabilization and burned area rehabilitation.
