Tender$571KCloses 2026-08-19GBAgriculture & FoodSupporting industry in the switch to sustainable and circular bio-based products and processes
→Expected Outcome: Successful proposals will contribute to updated EU Bioeconomy Strategy, the Clean Industrial Deal, the European Chemical Industry Action Plan and the upcoming Circular Economy Act. Projects results are expected to contribute to the following expected outcomes: Identification of technical, market and regulatory barriers and possible solutions for industry to ‘switch to bio-based’. Contribution to filling the gap between bio-based sectors and the broader industrial landscape. Scope: While the share of bio-based products and processes in traditionally non-bio-based markets has been growing substantially in recent years, many non-bio-based, partially bio-based and more traditional bio-based industries (such as food industry) still perceive market and regulatory situations as uncertain and may therefore be reluctant to invest in new bio-based value chains. These uncertainties may relate to cost competition versus fossil-based counterparts, first-mover hesitation, lack of investment attractiveness, regulatory issues, uncertainties in feedstock quality and availability, lack of knowledge, shortage of relevant skills, etc.. Notwithstanding these challenges, industries…
Grant$1.4MCloses 2026-09-22EUAgriculture & FoodInnovative solutions for the sustainable and beautiful use of vertical space
→Expected Outcome: Project results are expected to contribute to all of the following expected outcomes: Higher availability of innovative solutions for vertical space [1] use on the market. The application of innovative solutions for vertical space use allows for a more efficient use of the existing built environment [1] and provides green spaces and/or affordable housing in neighbourhoods [1] . Scope: The increased demand for housing and thus land can conflict with the need to preserve and restore nature and biodiversity in our neighbourhoods. Rethinking the way we use existing buildings and applying a smart and efficient use of space is thus crucial to limit urban sprawl. There is therefore a need to develop solutions that make use of the under-used and un-used vertical space above our streets and buildings. Urban vertical farming, community gardens on rooftops, vertical extensions and other alternative multifunctional structures making use of these spaces might be suitable solutions to high-quality, sustainable [1] and affordable housing and green spaces while limiting land use. However, if not carefully planned and integrated, these solutions might face challenges such as…
Grant$5.8MCloses 2026-12-01EUAgriculture & FoodNational Trust- NI - Castle Ward Woodland Restoration
→Castle Ward Estate contains a rare and ecologically important area of semi-natural broadleaf woodland within the Strangford Lough AONB. The woodland supports priority habitats and protected species, including red squirrels, pine martens and badgers, making sensitive management and habitat protection essential throughout the restoration programme. The primary threat to the woodland is the spread of invasive non-native species, particularly cherry laurel and Rhododendron ponticum, which suppress native regeneration and reduce biodiversity. This project aims to restore woodland health through invasive species control, sycamore thinning and enrichment planting of native species, especially hazel, while ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and best practice. The successful contractor will act as Forest Works Manager and deliver all restoration works between 1 October 2026 and 28 February 2027. This will include invasive species removal, sycamore removal, native planting and site clearance, with all cutting, felling and arisings completed by the end of February 2027. Follow-up invasive species treatments will be required during 2027 and 2028 to ensure long-term restoration success.
