Strengthening Global Health Security through local partnerships in Sierra Leone
The purpose of this NOFO is to build and sustain a more resilient public health system in Sierra Leone in an effort to identify, respond and mitigate health threats. CDC, through this NOFO, will continue to leverage and complement the strengths and resources of multisectoral and multilateral partners in Sierra Leone to build and improve country capacity and leadership in the prevention, early detection, and response to infectious disease threats, with, a special emphasis on core capabilities in data and surveillance, diagnostics, public health workforce and institutions, and prevention and response. The outcomes include: to prevent emerging threats, strengthen health security and transfer assistance activities to the government and the National Public Health Agency.

→The overarching goal of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) and its companion opportunities is to establish the Precision Medicine with AI: Integrating Imaging with Multimodal Data (PRIMED-AI) Program to support development of innovative, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable multimodal AI-based clinical decision support (CDS) tools. PRIMED-AI CDS tools are based on the integration of clinical imaging with other types of multimodal health data to enhance care for patients with a wide range of health conditions. The PRIMED-AI Program seeks to catalyze the adoption of AI-based CDS tools into clinical workflows to enable novel personalized medicine strategies that address significant health challenges. The purpose of this NOFO is to solicit applications for the creation of a Validation Center to serve as a dedicated hub for the comprehensive evaluation and characterization of AI-enabled, image-based, multimodal CDS tools developed by the PRIMED-AI Consortium, to ensure these tools are reliable, reproducible, and generalizable. The Validation Center will focus on verification, validation, interoperability, and uncertainty quantification to comprehensively characterize performance of the CDS tools developed by the program. The core functions of the Validation Center will involve the systematic validation of PRIMED-AI Consortium deliverables, including those emerging from award recipients under the Playbook, Data-to-Model Academic-Industrial Partnerships, and Model-to-Clinic NOFOs.

The purpose of CaRe-T1D is to support innovative, discovery and mechanistic research through the study of human cardiovascular (CV) tissue. This research seeks to better understand cardiovascular disease (CVD) in type 1 diabetes, highlight differences compared to type 2 diabetes, and ultimately guide the development of therapies to treat this major cause of morbidity and mortality for individuals with type 1 diabetes. →Through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) solicits applications for research on developing a comprehensive and cohesive understanding of cancer metastasis. Towards this goal, the NCI will support U54 Specialized Centers that together will continue to serve as the hub of the Metastasis Research Network (MetNet). Each MetNet Center should propose an overarching scientific theme that will be pursued through two or three scientific inter- and multidisciplinary basic research projects. The projects should use integrative system level approaches to elucidate and integrate a mechanistic understanding of the non-linear, dynamic, and emergent processes in metastasis. Overarching themes should encompass the interplay between at least two central elements in the metastatic process such as early dissemination, cellular, soluble and/or physical microenvironment crosstalk, dormancy, or mechanisms of responses by metastatic cells to therapies. Studies on all types of cancer are welcome, including rare and pediatric metastatic cancers.Research proposed by MetNet Centers is expected to advance our understanding towards a more comprehensive appreciation of metastasis as a whole body, systems-level problem.

Expanding global health security through local partnerships in Nigeria
→The purpose of this NOFO is to strengthen International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005) capacities of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC); other Government of Nigeria ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) relevant to the implementation of multi-sectoral response efforts of the IHR; and sub-national public health institutions, such as State Ministries of Health and local government authorities. NCDC recently completed its second Joint External Evaluation (JEE) in 2023 and has shown significant improvement from the first JEE in 2017, however several gaps remain. Strengthening NCDC and MDAs health systems and workforce management capacity will further support Nigeria"s ability to work collaboratively using a multisectoral approach to implement the IHR. Strengthening sub-national capacities can improve detection and response to health threats at the local level where they occur.

→The CDC office in Ethiopia was established in 2001 and works closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), and other Government of Ethiopia (GOE) agencies to develop the capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to priority diseases. In 2014, CDC began coordination with the GOE to build Ethiopia's capacity to achieve the International Health Regulation (IHR) targets through implementing the Global Health Security Agenda. The initial road map was developed with multi-sector partners in 2015, and the multi-sector collaboration is proving successful with over 500 trained in field epidemiology, a national public health emergency operations center activated for outbreaks and expanding diagnostic and surveillance capacity. In 2020, CDC has continued to support and advance GOE's ability to detect, respond and manage multiple concurrent outbreaks that plague Ethiopia on a yearly basis through the collaboration of multiple implementing partners including EPHI. CDC will continue to empower the GOE to strengthen their response efforts to public health emergencies by building on the 2020-2025 projects focused on CDC's Global Health Security Framework. The strategic focus areas of CDC's work to achieve Ethiopia's IHR compliance are the following: (1) Laboratory, (2) Workforce Development, (3) Surveillance, (4) Emergency Response and Management, (5) Antimicrobial Resistance (6) Immunization, (7) Health Information System Strengthening.

Tanzania completed the Joint External Evaluation and launched a costed National Action Plan for Health Security based on a multi-sectorial approach. This NOFO supports programs/activities in the following areas: strengthening biosurveillance systems networked to information sharing platforms to predict and identify health threats, including at points of entry; expanding emergency capacity through national and subnational emergency operation centers; enhancing national laboratory capabilities and applying biosafety and biosecurity best practices for accurate, and reliable detection of outbreaks, antimicrobial resistance and emerging zoonotic diseases; increasing timely and transparent reporting of disease emergencies and threats to relevant national and international authorities; and developing a functional biosurveillance workforce with trained disease detectives and laboratory scientists.
