DNWP0016 - WAGR Enabling Works and Strip-out - Sellafield - A2R JV
WAGR Overview and Site Information The Windscale Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (WAGR), commissioned in 1962, was the prototype for the UK's second-generation Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) fleet. The facility (Building B50), recognised by its distinctive spherical containment shell, was supported by the fuel assembly building (B52) and turbine hall (B55). Following reactor core dismantling and removal in 2012, the WAGR Complex entered Care and Maintenance (C&M). The facility is now progressing towards its final phase of decommissioning and demolition. Existing records confirm the presence of Low-Level Waste (LLW) and Intermediate-Level Waste (ILW), resulting in ongoing radiological and contamination hazards. All buildings within the WAGR area are owned by the Remediation operating unit, remain under active surveillance and maintenance, and are classified as Beta Gamma contamination facilities. Project Scope The scope comprises enabling, strip-out, waste management and decommissioning support activities across the WAGR facility, alongside support for wider Windscale decommissioning programmes and emergent operational requirements. Key activities include (see attachment) - Strip-out Works: Internal and external removal of fixtures, fittings, equipment and non-structural elements to facilitate future decommissioning and demolition activities. - Radiological Waste Management: Safe handling, removal and management of LLW and ILW in accordance with site requirements. - Asset Reinstatement: Delivery of asset reinstatement works and provision of SQEP resources to support successful handover. - Pre-Construction Information (PCI): Support information gathering and site characterisation where existing PCI is insufficient. - Surveys: Plan and undertake surveys to assess radiological, hazardous and operational conditions in support of future decommissioning works. - Project Enabling Works: Design, fabricate, trial and implement enabling solutions, equipment and materials to support project delivery. - Asbestos Management: Planning, sampling, monitoring and licensed asbestos removal where required. - Procurement: Procurement of materials, equipment and associated quality documentation. - Waste Management: Sorting, segregation, consolidation and disposal of current and historical wastes, including completion of documentation for transfer to Sellafield Waste Coordinators. - Emergent Works: Rapid response support to operations and maintenance teams for safety-critical issues. - Temporary Works: Management, design and construction of temporary works, including scaffolding, enclosures and other supporting structures. - Decontamination: Decontamination activities to support area declassification and radiological rollback. - Plant Modifications: Production of Plant Modification Proposals (PMPs) and associated documentation. - Scaffolding Services: Provision of scaffolding design, supply and installation resources as required. Tender$536KCloses 2026-11-19GBConstructionManchester International Airport - Rail Footprint Civils
→The planned introduction of longer train services to the Airport in response to future demand growth will mean that double stacking arrangements of trains as currently used will no longer be viable. Through the project's Delivery Steering Group, Northern and TransPennine Express have carried out analysis which has identified that additional platform capacity is needed at the airport in order to realise the full benefit of longer train services serving the airport. The scheme is part of a package of proposed measures in the Manchester area that are being designed/planned to boost capacity and resilience, emanating from the Cross Manchester Capacity and Reliability Improvement Study. Improving the operation of train services in the centre of Manchester and providing further capacity at Manchester Airport station, aligns with the strategic aims of Network Rail, TfGM, TfN and the wider industry. This project in in Tranche 1 of the Manchester and North West Transformation Programme (MNTP): A remodelling of the station at Manchester Airport, specifically a platform addition or extension of multiple platforms, or provision of a new turnback facility, will be essential to accommodate the planned implementation of longer rolling stock services. The redevelopment of these platforms will enable permissive working of two 6x24m (144m) trains, in two of the four platforms at the Airport Station. This will allow for the unaltered retention of all existing TOC services both originating and terminating at the Airport Station under 'double-stacking' conditions. The scope areas for this package are as follows: - OLE Substructures & Foundations - King Post Retaining Walls - Ancillary Civils (Inclusive of but not limited to; Trough routes, small concrete foundations, UTX's and signage).

DOE CMEI is dedicated to securing America’s energy future by reinforcing domestic critical mineral supply chains, driving next-generation energy technology and manufacturing research, and promoting affordable, consumer-friendly solutions. CMEI’s AFFO is issuing this ASPECT NOFO, DE-FOA-0003647, to support research, development, and pre-pilot testing of innovative technologies that produce chemicals from alternative and waste feedstocks, mobilizing America’s abundant alternative feedstocks resources. The goal of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to advance promising chemical technologies that utilize alternative feedstocks through multiple levels of maturity and, in some cases, to pre-pilot scale. To accomplish this, the NOFO is divided into two topic areas, each divided into two subtopic areas designed to provide different on-ramps for technologies at different stages of development. Topic Area 1 supports the progression of technologies in the R&D phase. Subtopic Area 1a supports advancing early-stage research to bench scale. Subtopic Area 1b is intended to move projects closer to pre-pilot scale, to a point where critical unit operations must be further developed and demonstrated. Topic Area 2 provides an on-ramp for technologies ready to move from R&D to full pre-pilot scale and operations. Projects applying to Topic Area 2 should aim to advance their technology to design, construct, and operate pre-pilot scale facilities. Both subtopic areas have the same goal—to move technologies into integrated pre-pilot systems and operate them—but allow for two different points of entry. Subtopic Area 2a targets preliminary pre-pilot scale testing of critical unit operations before engineering and design can commence for the entire system while Subtopic Area 2b projects will involve technologies that are ready for design and construction of an integrated pre-pilot facility. Please see the full NOFO document at eere-exchange.energy.gov. Questions regarding the NOFO must be submitted to ASPECT@doe.gov. The required Concept Paper due date for this NOFO is 10/09/2026 at 5PM ET. The Full Application due date for this NOFO is 12/01/2026 at 5PM ET.
